Classroom Information
Goals of Our Classroom
Our classroom focuses on building strong, caring relationships with each student as they learn to be successful students in a smaller classroom environment. We take a positive stance on teaching and reinforcing behavior and firmly believe that with the right amount of support, love, and consistency, every child will be successful. As students build their academic and behavioral skills, we work to integrate them with their homeroom classrooms as much as possible. And of course, we always try to have some FUN while we're learning!
Homework
Reading everyday is one of the most important factors in developing academic skills for our primary learners. Current research shows that for our youngest students, the most beneficial "homework" is an opportunity to read at home everyday coupled with experiential learning (think, a trip to the park exploring nature, a visit to your library or the museum, or even just the opportunity to play board games practicing social skills). Based on this research, the only homework I require is that students read for 20 minutes every night in the manner that works best for them (with a parent or other adult, sibling, or alone). Additionally, you may choose as a family to take advantage of some of the links on the "student link" page for more learning activities. Read more about the benefits of reading every night here!

The Level SystemThis is the primary method used for behavior modification in our classroom. With every student, the appropriateness and effectiveness of this system will be discussed with parents and other related service providers to meet your student's individual needs.
